Machine Shop
The 'Light Engineering' workshops of WORTH Trust at Katpadi, Tiruchirapalli and
Pondicherry are equipped with turret lathes, Capstan lathes, automats, presses,
drilling machines, milling machines, grinding machines and thread rolling machines.
State-of-the-art CNC machines are also installed for precision work at Tiruchirapalli
and Katpadi.
A variety of components are turned out by WORTH Industries. The automobile sector
is one of our regular, long standing customers for items used in original equipment,
testifying to its satisfaction over our product quality, competitive pricing and
the ability to meet delivery schedules.
Industries at Katpadi, Tiruchirapalli & Pondicherry involved in machining of automobile
components are certified for ISO/TS16949.
Plastics
The Plastics Unit at Katpadi has several injection moulding machines of capacities
ranging from 17 to 550 tonnes, including high precision, computer controlled units
with all state-of-the-art accessories and machines to cater for injection moulding
of precision components.
With a highly competent workforce manning these machines, WORTH Trust manufactures
injection moulded components from various kinds of plastic such as Delrin, ABS,
HIPS, Poly-propylene, Nylon and other engineering plastics. Major companies like
Brakes India and Rane in the automobile sector, EID Parry in the sanitary ware industry
and Gandhimathi Appliances in the household goods segment are some of our regular
customers.The sanitary ware products we produce on behalf of EID Parry are shipped
direct to their dealers all over India and some are exported as well. Besides undertaking
subcontract work, the Plastics Unit also produces Assistive Devices for persons
with visual impairment such as abacus, geometry sets, stylus and indoor games equipment,
under WORTH's own label and meeting international standards.
WORTH Plastics Unit is ISO/TS16949 certified for their machining of automobile components
and ISO9000:2000 for all of their other components.
Braillers
One of the leading names in Braillers, which are essential writing devices for the
visually handicapped persons, is Perkins of U.S.A. The cost of importing Perkins
Braillers into India is high and the procedure cumbersome. With a view to making
these Braillers easily available at an affordable price in India, WORTH Trust entered
into a collaboration agreement with Perkins in 1996. Under this agreement, several
of our workers with disabilities were trained at their facility in America and experts
from Perkins visited here to offer further training and guidance. Today, these world
class machines are assembled at our works in Katpadi, using original components
shipped from America and carry the same international guarantee. To add to the advantage
of lower labour costs in India, Perkins has also arranged a subsidy through the
Conrad N. Hilton Foundation making it possible for these Braillers to be madeavailable
in India and the developing world at a cost much lower than the import price from
U.S. In India itself the braillers are sold well below cost, thanks to a generous
subsidy extended by WORTH. Plans are also afoot for production of Braille Slates
by WORTH, under a similar collaboration agreement between the two organizations.
WORTH Brailler Unit is certified for ISO9000:2000 for all of their components.
Mobility Aids
 At an exclusive facility at Katpadi, WORTH
Trust makes several aids and appliances for adults and children with disabilities.
These assistive devices made by persons with disabilities for others like them and
include:
- Wheelchairs
- Tricycles
- Walkers
- Walking Sticks
- White Canes
Several types are made in each case to fulfill requirements of different
sizes and to suit varying levels and degrees of disability. Besides mobility aids,
this Unit also makes items like Low Vision Stand for the visually impaired.This
fabrication unit also produces collapsable pallets for industrial use.
